Pewter and metal casting info from Master Magnus-------------------
(These are not my words.  They are his.)
After Jonathan Blackbow (of Atlantia) suggested getting Pewter from
the Hallmark Metal Co (hallmark.metal@juno.com) 1-888-467-8000
last week I emailed them from their webpage.
http://www.hallmarkmetalscorp.com/
This morning I got an email suggesting I call them.

They don't have a catalog, books on casting, or rtv rubbers that I
had asked about. However they do have the lowest prices on Pewter
I've yet run across. (Being a commodity the metal prices are
subject to change however.)

I spoke with Stephan M. Kaplan and he told me they have two lead
free pewters particularly suitable for our purposes with the first
designed specifically for children at the request of Crayola.
The initials are named for his child.

MPK is a Tin/Copper/Bismuth/Silver alloy melts 5-600 degrees f $4.25 lb.
928 is a Tin/Antimony/Copper alloy / melts 550-650 degrees f $3.75 lb.

The bars are available in 7 lbs, and are notched for three pieces
or can be cut at the factory.

When I asked about R.T.V. Rubbers he referred me to the
Frank Pertot Co. in NYC. 1-800-627-5369.

Check out:

suppliers, and references.

OFF LINE ADDRESSES FOR ARMOURERS

ARMOURERS FOR THE SCA

------------------------------------------------------------------------
please note that I have no clue where the comments came from. Someone
feels this way, but do not assume that it's the maintainer of this page

Recent update: This list apparently originated on the Ringworld BBS.

Also, yes, I am aware that some of this is out of date. Submissions and
corrections will be accepted in the format shown, mailed to the
maintainer's address below. It may take some time to add or remove you,
please be patient. I'm pretty busy these days.

United States Armorers below the double line are new or verifiable.

OUT OF BUSINESS

Certain armorers are no longer in business, and I'm listing them here,
so that they don't get any more calls.

North Star Armory - Master Peter of the Golden Isles

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sir Wulfstan (Don't know his last name, East Kingdom)

Armorers in the United States

Thornbird Arms - Master Brion Thornbird
Brian Price
Tamalpais rd, Hayward, CA
Fax: 510-
Producers of some of the best armor I've seen! Their prices are not
cheap, but the value is there. Custom orders seem to be preferred, and
there is a longish delay before delivery, but the work is excellent. I
don't have a price list, unfortunately.

Helms are available in 12 gauge, with 14 as standard. Any style, from an
accurate Churbourg Bascinet to a Milanese barbute. Gauntlets in various
styles, fingered, mitten, and mixed.

Next to Kirby Wise-Fraser, this is the best there is!

NOTE: There has been an accusation of dishonesty on the part of this
armory: that they don't produce on time, that they have about $10,000 in
back orders, that their quality is not all that high, and that you
shouldn't send them money beforehand. Take it as you will.

MacKenzie-Smith - Master Robert Kinslayer
Robert MacKenzie
12116 Highland Drive
P.O. Box 3315
Truckee, CA 95734

Custom and stock armor well crafted. His line tends to a more 'gothic'
feel than some others, no matter the style, but not sufficiently to
detract from the line. Helms run $100 for a Greathelm through $275+ for
an ornate Salade. His fluting is better than that of most armorers.

Swordbelts, baldrics, and gambesons are also available, as are curved
plywood shield blanks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Renaissance Trends - Howard & Wanda Noble
P.O. Box 58734
Tucson, AZ 85732
Display, Adrian, and SCA Legal Armour
Armor is available in 14, 16, or 18 gauge mild steel, while fluted items
are available in 16 or 18 only. Strapping and buckles are included. Helm
prices range from $90 for a Great Helm to $265 for an articulated tail
Salade.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hold Tyte Armory - Sir Robert de Spencer, OL
2359 Cavalier
Salt Lake City, UT 84121

Soldier grade armor at very reasonable prices. Also curved Aluminum
shield blanks (T-6), basket hilts, etc.

excellent results. These blades are PRETTY as well as seriously
functional. GOOD stuff!

Nice stuff, a little toy-like, but will do custom work. Uses metal-
removal tech.

The daggers are especially good.

Good, quality stuff! They have a VERY nice catalog that is worth
getting.

Reccommended VERY highly!

Their rapiers are a bit clumsy, but the rest of it is NOT BAD!

What I have seen doesn't look too bad....not of the quality of most of
the other armourers listed on this page, but not too bad, nonetheless.
The knives are very nice, tho.

Very pricey, high-carbon steel (needs oiling and not to be stored in
sheath), but worth every bit of money and care. And, if properly
cared-for, they've got a lifetime trade-up guarantee. He does custom
work, too, and bargains.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kirby Wise-Fraser (Master Zoltan Kovacs)
P.O. Box 531
Bouse, AZ 85325

General armourer. This is the best quality edged weapons maker in the
SCA, with blades from "soldier" quality to museum replicas. Very fancy
inlays, cut-work, whatever you want in arms and armour he can do it. It
is not cheap at all, and delays tend to be very long, but the wait is
worth it. Kirby Blades are SCA legends!

Kirby Wise-Fraser has a web page.
